Tips to consider before selecting a Video wall

High quality video walls are being deployed in variety of applications: control rooms for critical infrastructure, broadcast, security and surveillance monitoring, to name just a few. Selecting a right video wall is a complex task as it requires a lot of brain storming sessions internally. So, here are few things you need to be sure about before selecting the right video wall for your operation:

Ultra-reliable operation
Video walls in control rooms are expected to carry out ultra-reliable operations. So, make sure that the one you choose is capable of running 24x7, has high MTBF (mean time between failures), low MTTR (mean time to repair) and built-in redundancies to support mission critical application.

Display size
Before deciding on the size of the display, a lot of factors have to be considered. The user needs to analyze the size of room, application for the video wall, operator seating plan, budget for the project and front or rear access possibilities. After analysis of the above factors, the user can decide on the size of the display which is required and feasible.

Display resolution
Resolution also plays a major role in deciding on the Video wall. Video wall comes in various resolutions like XGA, SXGA+, UXGA, Full HD, WUXGA and 4K. Before deciding the resolution for your video wall, you need to consider factors like lighting inside the room, content which will be run on the video wall, font size of the content and viewing distance from control desk. These factors ensure that the display resolution caters to your need.

Display brightness
The brightness of the Video wall should not be low or dull. A minimum of 200cd/sqm is required to avoid risk of operator fatigue.

Viewing angles
Viewing angles should also be considered before finalizing the video wall. Viewing angles from Control desk to Video wall should not be narrow. The user may consider linear or curved set up to increase the viewing angles.

A solution for Several Control Room Applications

‘Information’ is the key to smart systems. The more data you gather and analyze, the better solutions you can create. Evidently, by analyzing various databases and information, better understanding of the situations can be obtained and quick action can be taken, at a given moment. Video walls are used for monitoring big data which is critical for any operation  and hence are highly recommended for mission critical applications. Below are the applications where video walls are implemented:

Traffic
An ever-increasing number of vehicles is leading to too much of congestion and incidents on roads, there by challenging the traffic management centers, in their objective of constantly monitoring and managing situations. Video walls, with its 24x7 display capabilities can help traffic management centers minimize traffic related challenges, maximize the use of resources and optimize actions by providing right kind of information at the right time.
Not only roads, video walls are helpful in monitoring rail, ship and air related traffic as well.

Surveillance

Surveillance is need-of-the-hour for every business operation these days. Besides the government, which needs surveillance for public security, surveillance requirements of corporate sector are generally driven by the need to protect employee and company assets. In airports, an intelligent monitoring system is needed for a safe journey of travelers whereas in banks, remote surveillance and monitoring can help prevent several thefts and frauds which go un-noticed. All these businesses need to handle large number of camera feeds Delta Video wall solutions powered by DLP technology can help security officers keep, round-the-clock vigil on all the movements in sensitive areas, through multiple video wall displays.

Telecommunication

With the expansion in network and coverage, telecommunication industry is conceived as an ever growing industry. In order to cope with  a dynamic environment, a scalable as well as reliable display solution is required. Video walls are expertly designed to deal with the dynamic and sustainable needs of the application. Delta’s video walls, in particular, have robust designs, latest technology and multi-level redundancy suitable for this 24/7 monitoring application.

Broadcast control rooms require fast decision making and flawless visibility of multiple cameras, sets and the host of moving data and video streams. Video wall solutions are absolutely meant for such challenging environments. They are designed to cater to the vast, real and ever-expanding requirements of large scale visualization systems.

Besides being used in the above mentioned areas, video walls, are utilized in process controlling, utility control rooms, collaboration rooms and many more.
